Overview

If you see the following error when testing or sending emails from JAMS:

5.4.5 Daily user sending limit exceeded
For more information on Gmail sending limits go to

This message is generated by Gmail, not JAMS.

It means the Gmail account configured in JAMS has reached Google’s daily sending limit.

Why This Happens

Gmail applies a daily sending limit per mailbox within a rolling 24 hour period.

Importantly, this limit is not just based on newsletters or bulk mail. It includes all email activity from that account.

This can include:

  • Emails sent automatically from JAMS (event confirmations, portal logins, notifications etc)

  • Emails sent manually from Gmail itself

  • Emails sent from phones or email apps connected to the account

  • Some failed or retried send attempts

Even if overall volumes seem normal, the combined total across all of these sources can trigger Google’s daily user limit.

Once the threshold is reached, Gmail blocks further sending until the 24 hour window resets.

Can JAMS Override This?

No.

This restriction is enforced directly by Gmail’s servers. JAMS cannot bypass or override Google’s sending limits.

What You Can Do

1. Monitor Gmail Sending Activity

If you are running a large event or expecting high system activity, consider checking Gmail account usage in advance to ensure the account has not reached its limit.

Please note we are unable to advise on Gmail’s internal sending thresholds or account diagnostics, as this falls outside our area of expertise.

2. Use a Dedicated Mailbox for JAMS

Some organisations use a mailbox dedicated solely to JAMS system emails. This can reduce the risk of reaching the limit due to general day-to-day email use.

3. Use a Transactional Email Provider (Recommended Long Term)

For organisations running regular events or high volumes of system notifications, a dedicated transactional email service is generally more reliable than Gmail.

These services are designed specifically for application-generated emails and are not subject to standard Gmail daily limits.

As with Gmail configuration, we are unable to advise on selecting or configuring third-party email providers.

Important

If the Gmail daily sending limit has been exceeded, sending will resume automatically once Google’s rolling 24 hour window resets.

There is no manual reset available within JAMS.
